This study aims to identify the level of Malay language identity among Generation Z (Gen Z) in Malaysia from a sociocognitive perspective. Specifically, this research seeks to examine the sociocognitive influences that shape Gen Z's Malay language identity. The study involved 660 respondents from Gen Z, selected based on their living locations in urban, suburban, and rural areas throughout Malaysia. A questionnaire was used as the instrument and distributed via Google Forms for data collection. The instrument developed by the researcher demonstrated high validity and reliability, with α ranging from 0.75 to 0.91. Data were analyzed descriptively and inferentially using the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) version 25.0. The study utilized four main variables that serve as the social background for Gen Z: gender, ethnicity, educational stream, and residential location. The level of Malay language identity among Gen Z was measured based on four indicators: attitudes, perceptions, appreciation, and practice of the Malay language. The study found that there are differences in attitudes, perceptions, appreciation, and practice of the Malay language among Gen Z with different social backgrounds. These differences subsequently lead to variations in the level of Malay language identity among them.
