Abstract

The emergence of artificial intelligence (AI) has fundamentally transformed the landscape of academic knowledge production, extending beyond its conventional role as a tool to becoming an active communicative actor within scholarly discourse. This conceptual paper explores the multifaceted ways in which AI participates in knowledge creation, dissemination and interpretation, positioning it as a co-actor that shapes both the process and content of scientific communication. Drawing upon contemporary theories in communication studies, including media ecology and epistemic frameworks, the paper critically examines the implications of AI-mediated interactions for authorship, credibility and collaborative knowledge building. By reconceptualizing AI as a communicative participant rather than a passive instrument, the study proposes a theoretical model that integrates AI-driven processes with human scholarly engagement, highlighting the co-constitutive nature of technology and academic discourse. The framework addresses key challenges, including epistemic transparency, ethical considerations and the negotiation of authority in AI-assisted scholarship. This inquiry contributes to the ongoing discourse on the evolving dynamics of knowledge production in the digital era, offering a foundation for future empirical investigations and methodological innovations in AI-mediated academic communication. Ultimately, it positions AI not merely as a facilitator but as an influential actor whose communicative capabilities necessitate critical engagement from scholars, educators and policymakers alike.

Kemunculan kecerdasan buatan (Artificial Intelligence, AI) telah mengubah secara asas landskap penghasilan ilmu akademik, melangkaui peranan konvensionalnya sebagai alat kepada pelaku komunikasi yang aktif dalam wacana kesarjanaan. Makalah konseptual ini meneroka pelbagai cara AI mengambil bahagian dalam penciptaan, penyebaran dan pentafsiran ilmu, dengan meletakkannya sebagai rakan pelaku yang membentuk proses serta kandungan komunikasi saintifik. Berlandaskan teori-teori kontemporari dalam bidang komunikasi, termasuk ekologi media dan kerangka epistemik, makalah ini meneliti secara kritis implikasi interaksi yang dimediasi AI terhadap kepengarangan, kredibiliti dan pembinaan ilmu secara kolaboratif. Dengan mengkonseptualisasikan semula AI sebagai peserta komunikasi dan bukannya sekadar instrumen pasif, kajian ini mencadangkan satu model teori yang mengintegrasikan proses dipacu AI dengan penglibatan ilmiah manusia serta menonjolkan hubungan saling membentuk antara teknologi dan wacana akademik. Kerangka ini turut membincangkan cabaran utama, termasuk ketelusan epistemik, pertimbangan etika dan perundingan autoriti dalam kesarjanaan berbantukan AI. Perbincangan ini menyumbang kepada wacana mengenai dinamika penghasilan ilmu dalam era digital serta menyediakan asas bagi penyelidikan empirikal dan inovasi metodologi dalam komunikasi akademik yang dimediasi AI. Akhirnya, makalah ini meletakkan AI bukan sekadar sebagai pemudah cara, tetapi sebagai pelaku berpengaruh yang keupayaan komunikatifnya memerlukan penglibatan kritis daripada sarjana, pendidik dan pembuat dasar.
