Abstract

This study investigates the dynamics of crime rates in Malaysia between January 2014 and April 2024 through an Exploratory Data Analysis (EDA) approach. The findings reveal a complex and heterogeneous crime landscape. Robbery constitutes the most frequent and seasonally sensitive offence, exhibiting pronounced variability across the study period. Assault, while relatively stable, reflects fluctuations aligned with broader social interactions. Rape demonstrates a gradual upward trajectory, with notable surges during holiday periods, likely linked to evolving reporting practices and heightened social awareness. Murder remains episodic and unpredictable due to its low base frequency. Overall, the analysis underscores the multifaceted nature of crime in Malaysia, highlighting the interplay of temporal, social, and contextual factors that shape crime patterns. These insights contribute to a more nuanced understanding of crime dynamics and offer empirical grounding for policy formulation and targeted crime prevention strategies.
