Abstract

Industri fesyen merupakan salah satu industri utama yang menyumbang kepada pencemaran alam sekitar termasuk di Malaysia. Berikutan itu, fesyen lestari semakin diketengahkan dan menjadi perhatian. Namun begitu, masyarakat Malaysia terutamanya belia dikatakan kurang menyertai aktiviti kelestarian walaupun sedar akan masalah persekitaran yang berlaku. Media sosial mempunyai peranan yang signifikan sebagai alat komunikasi bagi membentuk sikap dan persepsi pengguna terhadap sesuatu produk. Ia boleh menjadi alat komunikasi yang berkesan untuk mendidik masyarakat tentang fesyen lestari. Kajian lepas menunjukkan bahawa media sosial menjadi platform yang berguna dalam berkongsi pengetahuan maklumat mengenai produk fesyen lestari. Walau bagaimanapun, kajian tentang kesedaran dalam kalangan masyarakat Malaysia mengenai impak media sosial dalam membentuk hasrat pembelian fesyen lestari masih belum dikaji. Oleh itu, kertas konseptual ini bertujuan untuk mencadangkan satu kerangka konseptual untuk mengkaji perspektif dan kesedaran belia mengenai fesyen lestari serta mengenalpasti peranan media sosial yang mempengaruhi hasrat pembelian fesyen lestari dalam kalangan belia di Kuala Lumpur.

 

The fashion industry is one of the main industries that contribute to environmental pollution, including in Malaysia. As a result, sustainable fashion is increasingly being highlighted and gaining attention. However, the Malaysian community, especially the youths, are said to be less involved in sustainability activities despite being aware of the environmental problems that are happening. Social media has a significant role as a communication tool to shape consumer attitudes and perceptions towards a product. It can be an effective communication tool to educate the public about sustainable fashion. Past studies have shown that social media is a useful platform in sharing knowledge and information about sustainable fashion products. However, studies on awareness among Malaysians on the impact of social media in shaping sustainable fashion purchasing intentions have yet to be studied. Therefore, this conceptual paper aims to propose a conceptual framework to study the perspectives and awareness of youth on sustainable fashion as well as identify the role of social media that influences the intention to purchase sustainable fashion among youth in Kuala Lumpur
