The growing demand of bioethanol as a fuel blend to gasoline paves the way to the search for feedstock that can contribute to the bioethanol need of the country. YCW is normally processed as a refreshment product but due to the large volume of consumption, young coconut water is normally discarded. Moreover, MCW is considered as waste in the market after the extraction of coconut meat. The young coconut husk is considered waste and can be processed as a potential source of bioethanol. The coconut sap was explored considering the number of coconut trees in the country. The initial sugar concentration of the YCW, MCW, CS, and YCHJ are 4.39 + 0.3, 3.76 + 0.44 , 9.51 + 1.86, and 4.85 + 0.65 0Bx, respectively. The fermentation process was done for 72 hours using Saccharomyces cerevisiae as the fermenting yeast. The obtained bioethanol yields for YCW, MCW, YCHJ, and CS were 31.67, 15.71, 16.89, and 64.42 mL of ethanol per liter of their raw materials, respectively. The highest bioethanol yield was obtained using the CS and a lower energy is required in the process because of its high initial sugar concentration. The production cost was computed for each raw material that was shown to be higher compared to the bioethanol price index of Php 81.68 per liter using sugarcane molasses as feedstock.
Dharell Siano, Martina Victoria Pascua, Edessa Flordeliz, Mary Jane C. Among various biomass-derived fuels, pelletized biomass offers enhanced energy density, improved combustion efficiency, and ease of handling and storage. Khaya senegalensis, a fast-growing tree that thrives in suboptimal conditions, requires regular pruning, leading to significant biomass waste. This study examines the influence of feedstock particle size on the mechanical properties of Khaya senegalensis fuel pellets. Biomass trimmings from Khaya tree branches were collected, processed into wood chips, and ground into five particle sizes (0.1, 0.3, 0.5, 1, and 2 mm) before pelletization. The pellets were produced under constant moisture content, pressure, temperature, and binder percentage. A one-factor-at-a-time (OFAT) approach was employed, with each process repeated three times to ensure consistency. The mechanical properties analyzed include unit density, durability, axial compressive strength, and diametral compressive strength. Experimental data are analyzed using analysis of variance (ANOVA) to examine correlations between feedstock particle sizes and mechanical properties. This study establishes that particle size plays a crucial role in determining the physical and mechanical properties of Khaya senegalensis wood pellets. The results indicate that finer particles (0.15 mm) contribute to higher unit density and durability, whereas coarser particles (1.00 mm) enhance compressive strength.
Ras Izzati Ismail, Chu Yee Khor, Alina Rahayu Mohamed Copyright (c) 2025 Advanced and Sustainable Technologies (ASET) https://ejournal.unimap.edu.my/index.php/aset/article/view/1818 Tue, 10 Jun 2025 00:00:00 +0000 Determining the Potential of Layered Banana Fibre Weave Patterns for Enhanced Blast Resistance in Bomb Blankets https://ejournal.unimap.edu.my/index.php/aset/article/view/1689
The banana fibre is part of research aimed at creating materials for weaving bomb blankets. Among TES technologies, latent heat thermal energy storage (LHTES) systems are particularly attractive due to their high energy storage capacity and ability to operate at nearly constant temperatures. However, the low thermal conductivity of phase change materials (PCMs) remains a significant challenge, limiting the rate of heat transfer and overall system performance. This study explores the performance of an LHTES system by examining the effects of inlet temperature, mass flow rate, and flow direction, with a particular focus on horizontal flow configurations. The aim is to identify optimal parameter settings that enhance heat transfer efficiency and improve system performance. Using ANSYS Fluent, numerical simulations were conducted with paraffin wax RT82 as the PCM and copper as the triplex tube heat exchanger material. The results showed that an optimized parameter combination reduced the melting time to 232.8 minutes, a 51.44% improvement over the baseline case. These findings highlight the potential for strategic parameter optimization to significantly enhance LHTES efficiency by accelerating PCM melting and improving thermal distribution. The workers’ main problem is that they have to use a ladder to reach the ceiling and place tape between the wall and ceiling. This technique was employed to shield the paint-exposed area, particularly when the ceiling and wall were painted in contrasting colors. Because the tape absorbs the color of the painting, its quality typically does not match the ceiling’s surface, and when the worker tries to remove it, the color is still visible on the ceiling. The objective of the study is to implement a new additional tool to attach to the paintbrush in order to paint between the ceiling and wall area smoothly and neatly. To complete this study, the primary data collection was conducted through interviews with the painters at a construction site in Padang Besar, Perlis. The techniques of brainstorming, benchmarking, and morphological charting are used to produce and develop good ideas, which are expressed in detailed sketches and technical drawings. The polylactic acid (PLA) material was used in the 3D printing process to create the tangible prototype. The new additional tool that is called a paint edger, is attached to the paintbrush and this product can save working time to paint the area of the ceiling and wall by 32.9% compared to the conventional method. It aims to expand the country’s cattle population and implement good farming practices. However, the increase in milk production will lead to high food loss, but the government and supply chain actors’ awareness of this issue is low. Therefore, the role and knowledge of local farmers becomes essential in mitigating food loss necessary to support the government targets. This study aims to determine the effects of farmers’ demographics on their knowledge of food loss in the milk supply chain. This quantitative study used a set of questionnaires to survey 40 farmers, where the collected data were analyzed using ANOVA. The result showed that farmers’ demographics affect their knowledge about food loss. The farmer’s knowledge contributes to food loss in the milk supply chain, including pouring milk into a can, milking manually, transporting it with cold chain equipment, storing it in milk storage, and transporting milk under specific road conditions. Therefore, the mitigation strategy shall be developed through effective communication and collaboration with farmers and clear supply chain regulations. The strategy can be started with education about food loss at the farmer level, which is essential to gaining the best farming practices in the milk supply chain.
Fauzan Romadlon, Wan Nurul Karimah Wan Ahmad, Alina Shamsuddin Copyright (c) 2025 Advanced and Sustainable Technologies (ASET) https://ejournal.unimap.edu.my/index.php/aset/article/view/2179 Tue, 10 Jun 2025 00:00:00 +0000 Conceptual Framework for Supply Chain Management Strategies and Aviation Ground Maintenance Operations Sustainability: Mediation Role of Supply Chain Management Capabilities https://ejournal.unimap.edu.my/index.php/aset/article/view/2180
This paper develops a conceptual framework to examine the relationship between Supply Chain Management (SCM) strategies, SCM capabilities, and the sustainability of aviation ground maintenance operations.
